The Understory-The Tree is the Passage Between Earth and Sky

In 2019, I explored my interest in what happens in the underneath part of a tree. I began taking photos lying on the ground next to the trunk of various oak trees in MA and VT. The trunk is a composite of several trunk photos and is hooked with velvet, silk, and wool. The leaves are hooked with velvet, silk, wool yarn with sparkle, and wool. Each leaf is braided around with wool yarn to cover the folded edge of the rug backing. Acorns, birds, bees, butterflies, and a spider in a web grace the inner parts of the tree.
