original rugs and wall hangings combining hooking and braiding

Celebrating Robin & Tim

37” X 51”,  #5-, and 6-hand cut, hand-dyed, and as-is wool for the hooking, and as-is wool for the braid. Designed, hooked, and braided by Kris McDermet, Dummerston, Vermont, 2001.

This rug was made for my brother Tim and his wife Robin to celebrate their December 1, 2001 wedding on Martha’s Vineyard, a happy day for our families.  The braided centers are of continuous braids, tapered, and then the rest of the rows are butted.  The hooking was designed to fill in the spaces created by joining the braided circles.  Note that the outside braided rows of the circles and the outer three rows of braid, have been planned, braided, and laced so that they make a pattern called rick-rack.
