original rugs and wall hangings combining hooking and braiding

Hopscotch

29”X34”, #4-, 5-, and 6-cut hand dyed wool for the hooking on linen, and hand dyed wool for braid.  Designed, hooked and braided by Kris McDermet, Dummerston, Vermont, 2007.

This rug was started in a class with Sandra Brown, on geometrics.  Sandy has a very interesting and easy method for creating a geometric rug pattern with graph paper.  I took out what would have been hooked and added the braided sections.  The rug was hooked, the braided area cut out, the rug padded and backed, and lastly the measurements taken for the braid.  Each row of the braid is butted.
